Quetta Gladiators took on Karachi Kings in their first encounter on Pakistan’s soil as Karachi was eying to win the game and seal the playoffs spot while Quetta looked to take the revenge of their last game against Karachi.
Sarfaraz won the toss and decided that Quetta would field first, as the decision didn’t prove good early on with Munro and Babar provided solid opening stand for Kings, the pair put on 69 runs in 9 overs, with Munro scored 30 and was caught behind off Fawad. Livingstone was in sublime form throughout the PSL but could’t get going today, as he was dismissed for 5 by Nawaz. Babar started the innings slowly but he pushed on in the later part of the innings by scoring boundaries in quick succession along with Ingram; who made 24 off only 10 balls, and was trapped in front off Husnain. Babar went on to make 56, and was caught behind off Husnain. Dunk joined Iftikhar with Karachi reeling at 124-5, but the pair added valuble runs for host in the later part of the innings, with Iftikhar blasted his way towards to a blistering 44* off 18 balls, with Dunk scored 18 before being dismissed by Tanvir, as Karachi ended the innings at 190-5, Husnain picked up 38-2, while Sohail Tanvir got 46-1.
Chasing 191, with the smaller boundaries, Watson and Ahmed Shehzad provided a decent opening stand for Quetta by adding 66 runs in the first powerplay as the pair took Karachi’s bowling attack to the cleaners. Teenager Umer Khan provided first breakthrough for Kings, as he had Watson caught for 19. Russouw was stumped for just 10, as Kings sensed a comeback in the game but Akmal and Shehzad’s partnership for the 3rd wicket put Quetta in the driving seat as Ahmed completed his 3rd consecutive fifty of HBLPSL-4. Quetta needed 62 off the last 6 overs, as Umer Khan got his 3rd scalp when he had Akmal caught off Amir Yamin for 27, with Kings made a comeback to the game, but Ahmed Shahzad cracked three sixes off Shinwari’s over to take Quetta within the touching distance of pulling the game off. Shehzad was dismissed for 99 in the last over, as Anwar Ali was caught the very next ball with Quetta needing 4 off 3 balls, as Shinwari’s heroics delivered the game for Karachi on the last ball, taking Kings home by one run only, as Karachi made it to the playoffs, with Lahore Qalandars are eliminated. Umer Khan picked up 26-3, while Shinwari picked up 43-3.
