Pakistan once ruled the world of squash with all the major titles. It was the era when we had the great Jehangir Khan and then Jansher Khan to carry on the legacy. But unfortunately, due to negligence and lack of system, this sport lost its path and began to suffer even till now it is suffering.
To everyone’s dismay, once champion Pakistan will not be competing in this year’s Squash Championship. In a decision made by Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) committee, constituting PSF President Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, SVP Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi, Director PNSA Air Commodore (R) Aftab Sadiq Qureshi, Secretary Group Captain Tahir Sultan and squash legends Qamar Zaman and Jahangir Khan, it was mutually agreed that Pakistan will not participate in the mega event.
This decision was made in the light of below the par past performances of senior players. Tournament participation fee was £5,000 which was due to be paid by 16th July which PSF did not pay as they realized it will not be a wise move to invest in senior players a lot of money when the country is not getting the desired outcome.
According to a committee representative, PSF would want to invest money on junior players as they are making Pakistan proud at various levels worldwide.
The 26th Squash Championship will take place for the very first time in the history of squash in the United States of America (USA). The championship will be played in Washington DC. from 15th-21st December 2019. 23 teams will compete in the mega event. Egypt being the defending champions are hot favourites of the tournament. Other than Egypt, some other top-ranked countries are also participating with the likes of England, France, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Germany, India, Canada, Finland, Switzerland, Malaysia, Scotland, USA, Spain and Wales
