Three Generations Who Scored a Double Century in First-Class Cricket
Cricket runs in the blood and some of the cricketing families justified the phrase by achieving astonishing feats. One of the unique records is the three generations scoring double hundred in first-class cricket. So far only two families have accomplished this feat.
Mohammad family from Pakistan and D’Oliveira family from the United Kingdom are the two families whose three generations scored double hundred in first-class cricket.
Pakistan’s Mohammad family needs no introduction. The eminent Hanif Mohammad scored a double century in first-class cricket. His knock of 499 runs is the highest one by any Pakistani batsman. Shoaib Mohammad, son of Hanif Mohammad was another fine batsman who also represented Pakistan in 108 international matches. He also scored double hundred in first-class cricket. His highest score is 208*. Shehzar Mohammad grandson of Hanif Mohammad and son of Shoaib Mohammad continued his family’s legacy as he smashed double hundred during Quaid e Azam Trophy 2018-19.
Another family who made it to the record books is D’Oliveira family. Basil D’Oliveira was born in South Africa but played cricket for England. He was from the first generation to score a double century in first-class cricket with 227 runs being his highest score. Damian D’Oliveira from the second generation was a South African cricketer but he scored double hundred playing for Worcestershire. His best score is 237 runs. From the third generation, Brett D’Oliveira hammered double ton while playing for Worcestershire three years ago.
Carrying family’s bequest throughout the career and achieving new heights through it is something extra special for a player. There are a number of cricketers who have continued the legacy of their family and unlocked countless achievements.
