National Amateur Cup – Second Week Roundup

The second week of the National Amateur Corporate T20 Cup was a run-fest as teams went on scoring big runs, unlike the previous round. Total eighteen matches were played in the second round. Here’s the brief recap of the action-packed second week of the tournament.

NAC – ISLAMABAD

In Islamabad round, eight matches were played over the weekend. In the run-fest Islamabad Ryders record of highest total was broken by Knight Riders during FCL – Lahore. The highest-scoring team of the second round of the Islamabad phase is Web Doc which scored 177 runs in the first innings. Mohammad Zahid’s blistering half-century (51) guided his team to a mammoth total. In reply, Eagle Stars got all out on 108 with 29 balls to spare giving Web Doc their second consecutive win of the tournament as they defeated Eagle Stars by 69 runs.

While the low scoring match (batting first) was between Mercurial Minds and Rebels. Mercurial Minds, batting first posted 103 runs for the loss of 9 wickets which Rebels elusively chased on the first ball of 17th over. Muhammad Huzefa top scored with 33 runs for Mercurial Minds. Man of the Match Yasir Arafat Khan batting at number 11 played a fine knock of 31 runs to take his team Rebels over the line and won the match by 1 wicket.

In other matches, Sportsfever360 smashed Isloo Smashers by two wickets to win the match. Mustangs came out victorious over Islamabad Doosras as they won by 96 runs and Hamza Ali of Mustangs got Man of the Match award for his blistering half century.

Dada CC also bagged second win of the tournament by beating Black Hawks by 39 runs. Spartans registered first win of the tournament by beating Navy Boys by 27 runs and for his brilliant bowling performance (4-12), Sohail Qaiser of Spartans was the Player of the Match. Tournament favourite Islamabad Ryders thrashed Fighters by 8 wickets in a low scoring encounter, Adeel Satti’s 47 runs not only guided his team to victory but also earned him Man of the Match award. In another low scoring match, Borntide Thunders secured a facile win over United XI as they won by 9 wickets. Five wickets haul by Safeer Ud Din made him Player of the Match.

NAC – LAHORE

The highest scoring and one-sided match was played between Unifoam and Wateen in which Unifoam, batting first scored 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Imtiaz Intizar top scored with 47 runs while opener Omer Tehzeeb and Muhammad Waheed played fine knocks of 37 runs each. Wateen tumbled in the chase and headed back to the pavilion for just 97 runs giving Unifoam victory by 94 runs.

In a low scoring encounter of the Lahore phase, Berger Paints claimed victory over Nespak by 4 wickets. Nespak, batting first got all out on 84 runs courtesy magical bowling by Berger Paint’s Shahid Butt who bagged 4 wickets and was named Man of the Match. Muhammad Nawaz’s brisk knock of 34 runs guided his side to victory.

While chasing IPC’s gettable target of 139 runs, Jazz tumbled badly and got all out for just 47 runs which is the lowest score of the tournament while chasing. Half of the Jazz team got duck. The credit of Jazz’s dismal performance goes to IPC’s Zahid Ul Hassan who sent 4 players back to the pavilion and earned Man of the Match award for his destructive bowling.

In other round matches, Enter secured a win over Engine by 21 runs while DPS lost to Fatima Group by 7 wickets and Adeel Tahir was named Player of the Match for his dazzling half-century. Zameen.com maintained their winning streak by beating Descon by 48 runs. Zameen.com’s Nadeem Akmal was unlucky to not score a century but his stormy innings of 91* runs earned him Player of the Match award. Meezan Bank also secured a win over Ibex by 5 wickets and Yasin Cheema was the Player of the Match for his all-round performance (21 runs & 1 wicket). Motorway Police were once again unlucky as Nestle defeated them by 5 wickets and Ateeq Ur Rehman was the Man of the Match for his 45 runs.

NAC – FCL – LAHORE

NAC – FCL had two matches on Sunday. In the first match, Corporate Avengers beat AJR by 18 runs. Corporate Avengers, batting first scored 178 runs. Anwar Khan (57) and Nadeem Dogar (46) put up a show down the order and contributed to putting up a fighting total. In reply, AJR showed some fight back but was unable to cross the mark. Kamran Riaz showed some resistance with 61 runs but all went in vain as his side lost the match.

The second match of the day was a proper run-fest between Knight Riders and Legionaries. Batting first, Knight Riders posted the highest total of the tournament – 265 runs. Man of the Match Mubashir Bhatti played a dazzling knock of 85 runs as his side posted 265-3. In reply, Legionaries could only score 163 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and lost the match by 102 runs.  

The third round of the National Amateur Corporate National T20 Cup will start from 26th October in Islamabad and Lahore. All the teams will grapple to make their position better on the points table.
