EMIRATES D20 saw some thrilling encounters on opening two days

DREAM II EMIRATES D20 League begun at the Dubai Sports City, with ECB blues took on ABUDHABI in the first game of the tournament, as ABU DHABI won the toss and elected to bowl. Rizwan Cp and Vriitya Aravind begun the innings with putting on 63 runs in 9 overs, Vriitya was dismissed for 24 off Mazhar. Rizwan made 40 off 28 balls, as Mazhar got the better of him. Captain Basil Hameed made 5, while the lower order couldn’t help the cause of ECB blues, as they could only manage 142/7 in 20 overs. Mazhar Bashir picked up 24/2

 

Chasing 143, Abu Dhabi had a decent opening of 39 by Surjith and Soorya. Surjuth was dismissed for 22 by Karthik, while Soorya made 24 before being dismissed by Aryan. Midhun was undone by Aryan for a duck. Mazhar made a slow 21 off 22 balls. Aryan’s sensational spell held Abu Dhabi back as he picked up 16/5 in 4 overs. Pasindu made 15, while Karthik’s innings of 9 wasn’t enough, as Abu Dhabi could only manage 106/9 in 20 overs, as ECB blues completed their first win by 36 runs.

 

 

The second game of the day was played between Fujairah and Sharjah, as Sharjah put Fujairah to bat first, as Rohan and Waseem provided an opening stand of 57 in 9 overs. Waseem was dismissed for 34. Rohan made 39 off 43 balls, but a late surge of 50 off 34 balls by Usman Khan took Fujairah to 148/4 in 20 overs. Kashif picked up 25/1 in 4 overs.

 

Chasing 149, Renjith and Khalid began the innings for Sharjah, as Renjith made 19 while Khalid Shah made 31 off 30 balls. Captain Fayyaz Ahmed stepped up 45 off 31 balls, but no one else supported him from other end. Kashif made 22, but this wasn’t enough as Sharjah made 138/5 in 20 overs, ended up losing the game by 10 runs. Ahmed Raza picked up 11/1 in 4 overs.

 

 

Third game of the day was between Ajman and Abu Dhabi. Ajman batted first after winning the toss, with Shakoor and Rameez Shahzad leading the way by making 60 and 73 respectively. Sultan Ahmed made 11 off 6 balls, as Ajman made 180/6 in 20 overs. Midhun picked up 24/2 in 4 overs

 

Chasing a massive total of 181, Abu Dhabi’s batting lineup struggled once again, as Sultan and Shareef ripped apart by taking quick wickets. Aaryan was dismissed for 2. Surjith made 12. Captain Midhun stepped up when his side needed him, but his knock of 42 was cut short by Nasir. Mazhar made 24, but no one supported him from other end, as Abu Dhabi were dismissed for 111 in 20th over. Sultan picked up 16/2, while Rameez picked up 3 wickets for 1 run only, as Ajman won the game by 69 runs.

 

The second day of DREAM II EMIRATES D20 saw Dubai taking on Fujairah in the first game, as Fujairah opted to bowl first, with Aayan dismissing Ronak and Adnaan early on. Captain Shahrukh made 38 off 27 balls, no one else helped him with Usman making 12 off 17 balls, while Punya made 14 off 19 balls, as Dubai could only manage 119/7 in 20 overs. Akif picked up 17/2 in 4 overs.

 

Chasing 120, Waseem and Rohan began the innings for Fujairah. Waseem made 13 off 19 balls, while Rohan made another impressive 62 off 53 balls. Usman Khan made 10, was Dubai made a sensational comeback in the game by taking quick wickets. Farooq was undone for a duck, Naeem made 3. But Sandy Sandeep took Fujairah over the line in last over, as they won the game by 4 wickets. Tahir picked up 16/3

 

The second game of Day 2, saw Ajman taking on Sharjah, as Ajman batted first with Shakoor making 38, while Rameez too made 38 off 34 balls. Nasir Aziz made 11 off 9 balls, as Ajman managed 128/5 in 20 overs. Kashif picked up 14/2 in 4 overs.

 

Chasing 129, Khalid Shah and Renjith set up a wonderful opening standoff 45 in 5 overs. Khalid made 30 off 14 balls, while Renjith made 31 off 28 balls. Captain Fayyaz stood up with 33 off 26 balls, as Sharjah chased down the target of 129 in 17th over. Nasir picked up 30/2

Last game of Day 2, saw Dubai taking on ECB Blues. ECB blues opted to bowl first after winning the toss, with Dubai’s top order couldn’t survive with Rudra, Punya and Shahrukh were dismissed inside 7 overs. Usman made 48 off 38 balls. Bilal Cheema made 16, as 16 from Omer Farooq helped Dubai to put on 128/7 in 20 overs. Kartik picked up 17/3

 

Chasing a modest total of 129, Vriitya and Rizwan provided a steady opening stand, as Vriitya made 19, while Rizwan made 16. Ali Shan and Basil put 53 runs stand for 4th wicket to take ECB blues over the line. Ali Shan made 48, while Basil made 26, as ECB chased the target in 19 over’s.
